Renal Biopsy and Other Diagnostic Tests
A percutaneous or open renal biopsy may be indicated in patients suspected of having glomerulonephritis or acute interstitial nephritis. The value of a renal biopsy is to confirm the diagnosis and predict outcome prior to the use of steroids and other potent immunosuppressive agents and before instituting difficult therapeutic procedures such as plasmapheresis. Other diagnostic tests may be indicated depending upon the clinical circumstances.
